All things for good(conclusion of Hey Jealousy)

Proposition 3: God’s failure to uphold and protect His own worth, glory and holiness would be a most devastating evil to the destruction of  His creatures.

I have tried (I hope successfully) to argue that God defends His worth and that in defending His worth He values and uphold those that are His.  But let us imagine what would happen if He did not defend His own worth.  Let us imagine a world in which God does not defend just one of  His moral attributes. We could go through each attribute and deconstruct this present world and reconstruct a world where God does not defend His own image in man nor values His reflection in man.   I believe that working through this attribute will suffice for the present format.

Righteousness

For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.(Psa 11:7)

As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake.(Psa 17:15)

God is righteous and He loves seeing His righteousness displayed in His image bearers.  So much in fact that when they sinned they incurred His curse yet through His mercy and in defense of His glory He also foretold of  an abolition of that curse through the seed of a woman which we now know is Jesus Christ.  If God did not love righteousness nor love seeing His righteousness in His creature why would He make “Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2Co 5:21)”?  He himself became sin for us.  He defends His own righteousness resulting in righteousness in His image bearers.  It would be an utter destruction for our souls to reflect anything other than our creator.  If He allow us to form our own image from the ashes of sin and allowed us to multiply unthwarted by His sovereign hand the world be truly a living hell.  No common graces such as civil democratic government to control the rise of malicious dictatorships nor police officers to control the crime in our streets.  Men continually doing what is right in their own eyes with no correction nor reproof from our righteous creator God. The devastation of bearing another image and reflecting anything less will end in utter destruction and will be the destruction of all those who rejected the gospel of redemption and the recreation of our souls.

Conclusion

God defends His own Glory and He does so in a manner that is the best good for His elect.  Jesus Christ is the ultimate display of His upholding of His glory through the destruction of sin and for the redemption of all that believe in His name and works. The honor of being human is bearing God’s image.  Spurgeon wrote in His commentary on the Psalms 17:15 “To behold God’s face and to be changed by that vision into his image, so as to partake in his righteousness, this is my noble ambition”.  The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church,”But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.(2Co 3:18)”  God is renewing His image in His elect and conforming them to the very image of His Son the culmination and full manifestation of His glory.

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren”(Rom 8:28-29)
